The 914 CAN AM CARS - MORE INFORMATION NEEDED - Can You Help?

Where’s the Bumblebee???

·                          We are always looking for good photos or details of 914 Can Am cars, especially any surviving 914 GT and 914 SL cars. Please email me what you have.

·                          What was the justification for offering both the Black and Light Ivory-based cars, when 1000 of one color scheme would have been more economical and profitable to produce?  Did Porsche simply want to proliferate the variety of the 1973 911 Carrera 2.7 RS association into the 914 model line?

·                          The dealership window stickers we have each indicate the 914 LE as model number 473644. PCNA has researched their records and indicated that in spite of the window stickers, the correct model number for 914 LE cars is 473544. Which is correct and why the discrepancy?

·                          How was black chosen for the 914 Can Am Bumblebee cars? There is no precedent in the 1973 Carrera RS cars for a black car. For all Porsches, the black/yellow Bumblebee color scheme is unique to the 914 Can Am cars, and the special color cost them more to produce.

·                          How many 914 GT and SL cars were built and why was their production limited to so few?

·                          Why do neither the 914 LE window stickers or COAs indicate the M-778 Can Am equipment package? And why was the 914 LE color combination specified sometimes specified without the M-778 Can Am Equipment package?

·                          It would really be great to find the special 914 Can Am / 'Personal Porsche' marketing kit sent to dealers as described in the March and April 1974 ‘Parade’ newsletter.

·                         Some knowledgable 914 owners have suggested that there may be a 914 Porsche advertisement, displaying all three 914 LE car color schemes.  Have you ever seen this image or can confirm its existence or have a copy which could be made available for this website?

·                          If you own a 914 LE, 914 GT or 914 SL, or know someone who does, there is an open invitation for that car to be included on the 914 Can Am Registry on this website.  Also if you have any details (VIN, photos, anything) of any 914 Can Am cars that are no longer with us, or that you previously owned, please send that info too, the cars will be included in the 914 Can Am Registry or on this website somewhere at your request.  Please send as much of the following information that is available to me  Email me:

·                     VIN number, numbers and date from the front and rear drivers door jamb labels, engine and transaxle serial numbers, PCNA Certificate of Authenticity, dealership window sticker.

·                     A few digital photos of the car, the owners name, email address, City and State/Country
